3 WEEKS OLD!

We all had a rough week. I got a cold and since I'm breast feeding I can't take anything for it and I couldn't sleep it off because with a snoring husband and a sick infant, sleep is impossible. Katelyn has nearly outgrown all of her newborn clothes as of today. Her mouth has gotten bigger so nursing is going better. She's still up most of the night but we're getting better at that also. We are now down to only one or two bottles a day of pumped milk. Yay! I could do without but it's nice to be able to have someone else feed her while I get a little extra sleep. I can't skip a feeding entirely because if I don't pump I'll explode and it's very painful and very messy. She's starting to prefer me to the bottle so I don't know how much longer bottle feeding will last.

Kate is still getting presents. What a lucky little girl. :) Grandma Diane sent a beautiful pink and white blanket that she crocheted and the Asakura's gave her a darling red velvet jumper. Auntie Michelle bought her some adorable dresses and one of them matches a dress she bought for Charlotte. Char was pretty excited to match her little cousin.

Saturday was my friend Carina's baby shower! Her little man, Josiah Solomon, is due in November. It will be so fun having a friend with our babies close in age. She got so many cute things. I think they are pretty much ready to go now!

We celebrated my Dad's 55th birthday on Sunday. The Chalman's and Connoly's came over and we had steaks for dinner and coffee cake for desert. I've included a few pictures from the event. It was a lot of fun having everyone together.

My weight loss seems to have leveled out but I'm pretty happy with it so far. I just need to tone things up now. I'm going to wait to exercise until after my post partum check up at 5 weeks. The stitches are still giving me some discomfort and I still feel pretty weak. If the bleeding would stop that would be amazing.

Some more pictures!

Such cute faces!

2 WEEKS OLD!

Our precious girl is growing by leaps and bounds! She's changing so much every day and I still can't get enough. I love her snuggles and even though it's exhausting, I love that she always wants to be held. She's so strong and holds up her head pretty well for a newborn. I think we're going to have a very active girl on our hands soon. We discovered that she loves to lay on her changing table and look out the window. The indirect sunshine must be soothing.

This week we visited the lactation consultant twice. She was able to give me a nipple shield that fit better than the one I found in the store, and help us work on Kate's latch. She said that because of the long, difficult delivery, that the nerves in her head were compressed and it's causing her to chomp while she's sucking. She also has a recessed chin and the ligament on her upper lip is short and keeping it from flaring out properly. So because of all of those reasons I was in a lot of pain and feeding was frustrating for both of us. The LC also taught us how to do baby led latch and it's far more relaxing for both of us. I'm still pumping and she gets a bottle a few times a day, but we're headed toward full time on the breast.

Katelyn had a photo shoot with my cousin's boyfriend, Tim, this week. He's a professional photographer and asked if we would like some family portraits. It was such a generous offer I certainly couldn't refuse! He had some great ideas and I think the pictures are going to turn out amazing. I can't wait to see them! It took a long time since she was fussy and it was difficult keeping her asleep.

We bought her Halloween costume this week. It's a fuzzy pink teddy bear sleeper. :) I'll post pictures at the end of the month.

Kate got her first peice of mail. Her Medical card came this week. Next week we're expecting her Social Security card and soon we can pick up her birth certificate! I also started working on her baby books. It's a lot of work keeping up on everything. I don't want to miss any of it. I still need to put together a scrapbook from the baby shower.

We received more gifts this week. Mark sent her some adorable purple leather shoes from England and Poppi and Grandma Jackson sent a beautiful Peter Rabbit baby book. Grandma Diane sent a stuffed puppy dog for monthly pictures.

In other exciting news Auntie Laura and Josh got engaged!! We're so happy for them!

Steven and I are doing well. We're starting to get a better routine and I'm able to get a little bit more sleep. I caught a cold which has made things a bit hard since I'm already so ran down. I'm still having a hard time finding an appetite also. I weighed in today a 169 lbs, down 35 lbs from my delivery weight and down 5 lbs from my pre pregnancy weight. My belly is still flabby and I have a lot of loose skin that I'm hoping will eventually go away. I'm still in a lot of pain from the stitches but my bleeding is now light and the cramping is gone.

1 WEEK OLD!

Wow, our first week as parents! It's so surreal and such a dream come true. On my online support group the ladies call a child born after miscarriage a rainbow baby. She really is the sunshine of our lives.

The hospital stay was long and difficult. I was in a lot of pain and recovery has been very slow. Katelyn wanted to nurse constantly and we were having a hard time with breast feeding. It's still pretty difficult but we're slowly getting better. When we got home we couldn't keep her happy at all and she gave us a good scare by not having a wet or dirty diaper in well over 24 hours. She started acting lethargic and limp and not like her strong little self at all. She also felt very light to me so I broke down and gave her formula. She sucked it down so quickly and I felt so awful. Poor kid was starving! Luckily my milk came in the next day so we only had to supplement with formula a few times.

She had her first Dr. appointment this week with the Pediatrition and is doing very well. She weighed in at 8 lbs 4 oz and 19.5" long. Not sure how she shrunk from birth so I'm going to chalk it up to bad measuring. :) Her appetite grows every day and so does the dirty diaper pile. That's great news in my book! She's very strong and makes so many noises. We are starting to learn her cues and Steven's very good at knowing which cry is hungry, gas, or wet. She loves to sleep on him and although she'll sleep in her crib just fine during the day, she wants to be close to us at night. I think we're going to have to get a snuggle nest co-sleeper for our bed.

We've used up all the hospital diapers and moved into cloth diapers. Steven is not loving it but the cost benefit makes it so worth it. He couldn't believe how many diapers we went through this week. We're also going through a lot of bottles since it's so painful for me to feed her at every feeding. So I'm pumping and we bottle feed about 70% of the time. I have an appointment with a lactation consultant on Thursday so hopefully we can get back to full time on the breast. She finds a lot of comfort in nursing and has a lot less gas than with the bottle.

Her belly button fell off on Sunday at 6 days old and she had her first bath to commemorate the occasion. Steven got it all on video and she loved it! I was prepared for a screaming baby but she just looked around and kicked her feet. It was the diapering afterward that she wasn't too happy about. I also set up my photo equipment and took a few pictures. Photographing a newborn is not easy.

I had my follow up Dr. appointment on Monday. We had to wait for two hours and amazingly she slept the whole time. I'm down to 178 lbs, blood pressure is back to normal, and I have a bladder infection. Physically I'm still having a hard time. The pain is slowly going away but I'm still very pale and yellow colored and every muscle of my body hurts. I don't have an appetite at all and of course sleep is hard to come by. I'm very emotional and have had a few breakdowns. Steven is so great at being my support and helping in every way that he can. He has unlimited patience for Katelyn's crying and if she wants to be held while she sleeps he'll do it all night long. I couldn't have asked for a better Daddy.

We had a few visitors this week and although I was a total zombie, it was nice that they stopped by. Our little girl is pretty popular and very loved.

These are some pictures I took at 6 days old.
